It is my privilege to welcome you to the 3^rd International & Indonesia Carbon Capture and Storage (IICCS) Forum 2025, themed “Advancing Indonesia as a CCS Hub Leader in the Asia Pacific: Achieving Net Zero and Economic Growth”. Held on October 7-8 at The Mulia Senayan Hotel, this forum fosters collaboration, knowledge exchange, and actionable solutions to accelerate CCS deployment. This forum continues unifying industry leaders, policymakers, academia, and international partners to debottleneck CCS challenges and opportunities, leading to Indonesia as a CCS hub leader in Global South.

Indonesia, with 600 gigatonnes of CO₂ storage capacity across saline aquifers and depleted reservoirs, is well-positioned to be one of the largest CCS potentials in the Asia Pacific and leverage its potential into Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target by 2060. Strong government- industry collaboration. Moreover, CCS development could boost GDP by 1% and generate 800 new jobs per million tons CO2 captured. Therefore, Strong industry-government collaboration, advancing regulations, and supportive policies will reinforce this mission.

Recent developments, including 15 CCS Development and Investment pre-projects, regulatory updates from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), and bilateral agreements, mark a turning point. However, financing, infrastructure readiness, and cross-border CO₂ transport remain challenges. Addressing these requires clear regulations, innovation, and public-private partnerships to attract investment.

Cross-border CCS services and foreign investment present Indonesia’s first major market opportunity, and as global demand for carbon storage grows, Indonesia is strategically positioned to offer reliable, cost-effective CO₂ storage, strengthening its CCS industry and climate leadership.
